Dunedin
We spent more time than we thought we would in Christchurch, so we didn't have a lot of time to explore Dunedin the first day. That didn't stop us from trying.
The night life wasn't as lively as in Auckland, but we still found a way to have some fun exploring.
My new best friend |
This was our second hostel, Backpackers. An aptly named boarding-house type building in which we could sleep (for cheap). When you stay in hostels, you learn where the cheap prices come from. Take for instance, the showers. This shower in particular had little water pressure and two temperatures, glacier ice and lava. According to Kyle, there was a perfect balance between the two. But from what I could tell, it was somewhere in the shower's 'Cold' region, and not in the 'Warm' or 'Hot' region.
With the light of day once again in our sector of the planet, we took to the streets again. Here's what we saw.

I've heard it's fun to stay at one of these |

Breakfast
That was the last stop we made before arriving at Invercargill. Luckily, the hostel accepted us at a late time, and we could get fish n' chips at a convenience store at 8 (New Zealand shops close surprisingly early).
For those of you who couldn't read the sign (stay in school, kids), this is the Purple Rain Retro Cafe. This is a small shop with heaps of knick-knacks and a cheap all-day breakfast (that includes canadian bacon). They also had a dairy-free brownie that I swiftly consumed.
Cadbury World
Have you heard of Cadbury? Yeah, that one brand with the chocolate eggs. Did you know that they make other chocolate too? You did? I'm the only one who didn't know that until I got here? This is starting to feel like the Oreo fiasco.
Anyway, Dunedin is home to New Zealand's Cadbury World factory. So we took a tour.

Most of the tour consisted of sneaking samples to my friends while the tour guides weren't looking and marveling at the engineering of the machinery. After the tour, my friends and I got discounts on products, so while my friends were getting chocolate, I bought a snack and my first cup of coffee. This will become a common theme: my friends get some dessert item, so I get a snack for myself out of depression. This will happen several times during our journeys, but I digress.

Dunedin-Invercargill
With sweets in our bellies, we set off again!
Here are some pictures from stops we made.
We decided to stop to take a pee break, or what I started calling, 'Urinature'. Not one of the worst stops I've made on the side of the road.
This was one of my favorite stops of the entire trip. I present to you: the Pacific Ocean.
